Fresno, CA - The Fresno Bee covered 3rd party candidates
on Sunday, October 13th, in an article that featured 4 valley Libertarians,
including Varrin Swearingen. Libertarian Assembly candidate
Jonathan Zwickel's picture took
center stage on the front page of the paper holding up a sign for Libertarian
Congressional candidate
Jonathan Richter.
There were 4 Libertarian candidates covered in the article which took a good
portion of the front page and nearly all of the back page of the A section.
Also interviewed was the American Independent Party candidate for Governor
who happens to live in Fresno. There are no other candidates from any
other 3rd parties in the central valley. Not interviewed, was our own
Pat McHargue, who
is running for Congress in the 19th district, which includes Northwest Fresno.

is a nice photo of Varrin with his daughter Erin, captioned: "Varrin
Swearingen, a Libertarian candidate in the 20th Congressional District, sits
with his 9-month-old daughter, Erin. Swearingen, 28, says his Libertarian
platform flows from his Christian convictions, and he sees taxation as coveting
'thy neighbor's income for the good of the people.'"
October 6, 2002 - Fresno Bee Article
Fresno, CA - The Fresno Bee ran an article today about valley Congressional
races in the B section. The article focused on the lopsided nature
of all 3 districts in Fresno. The Bee did include photographs of all
9 congressional candidates in the 3 races, including the 3 Libertarian candidates.
Only 4 paragraphs were really devoted to Varrin's campaign and the
only new quote was: "He says he is concerned about the nation's actions towards
Iraq, which he is not convinced is a threat to the United States."
